Experience Military History

with the  CONFLICT  ARCHAEOLOGY  specialists
Military History Live organises and runs conflict archaeology projects.

Our expert team of conflict archaeologists specialises in several areas. Our major focus is World War II Conflict Archaeology, (WWIICA), but we also work in other historical contexts. We offer unique opportunities for volunteers to join us in academic, archaeological fieldwork.
Newsflash: In September 2021, the first excavation of the north-east bastion site took place as part of Channel 4’s Great British Dig series. This was very successful and vindicated the project’s research to date. The programme will be broadcast on 25th April 2022 on More4 at 21:00 UK time.

Engage with military history

Military History Live is a specialist field unit devoted to conflict archaeology. We run projects in Britain, Italy, France, and elsewhere to investigate the archaeological remains of war from ancient times to the world wars of the 20th century.

Our team includes military historians, landscape archaeologists, geophysicists, excavators, metal-detectorists, finds specialists, photographers, GIS and computer data processing experts.

Our repertoire of techniques has been developed over more than twenty years of field experience.

We focus on fieldwork, and o
ur aim is both to carry out cutting-edge research and to make field archaeology accessible to all.

We are currently running several expeditions to offer opportunities to work and learn as part of a real archaeological team.
